The Introduction

Hello and welcome to Homesteading IT!

My name is Dan Goodman, I'm now 32, and I live in a rural town in North Texas with my wife, Joanna, and daughter, Lorelai. I'm originally from California, but bounced around a bit during my time in the Air Force and finally settled in The Great State of Texas. My wife and I have been married for 9 years and our baby girl was born in May of 2016.

By day, I am an IT instructor, but I am working ever-so-hard to find a way to live off of Homesteading IT in a full-time capacity. I absolutely love what I do now, but I truly believe humans were meant for more than spending the majority of our lives punching the clock. This is one of the major reasons my wife and I started an animal rescue and sanctuary upon moving to Texas - The Chick With Pits. A lot of what I talk about in these posts will focus on our rescue operations, but I will save that for a later date and time.

My reason for starting this blog is to capture all the great things my family and I are doing. I called it Homesteading IT because I am a tech guy (IT) who spends most of his free time building things, growing food, and enjoying the hot-ass Texas weather (I'll try to keep this blog as close to PG-13 as possible).

Along the way, I'd like to offer some insight into what we do on a daily basis to keep a roof over our heads, food in the stomachs of our animals, and sanity in this crazy adventure we have found ourselves on. Our friends are always telling us that our life would make for a great realty TV show because it would actually be realty (we couldn't make up some of the stuff we've been through if we tried). I'll talk about a wide variety of topics because I consider myself to be the definition of a jack-of-all-trades and a master of a few (instead of a master of none).
